It was the 10th year and with 16,000 runners, this years Royal Parks Half Marathon was one of the best events we have ever participated in. The sun was shining, sky blue and atmosphere electric for the 13.1 mile race around the capitals most iconic landmarks. After months of training, a few injuries and some stellar fundraising Jade, Michelle and Declan took to the tarmac and hot-footed it past Buckingham Palace and The Houses of Parliament to raise money for St Christopher’s and Matthew’s Friends.
As well as the incredible support throughout the route, it was amazing to see the wide range of charities being represented. Runners were giving their all for big and small organisations that matter to them and their loved ones. Personalised vests, banners and pictures were visible throughout the route and the sense of camaraderie was incredible. Big teams, fancy dress and even a morris dancer troop delighted and entertained the thousands that cheered on Sunday.
Heartwarming stories and dearly departed loved ones helped many continue with the gruelling race, ignoring aches, pains and blisters in order to cross that finish line.
The feeling when you make it to the end is one you never forget.
Thank you to everyone that has supported us and all those that helped make Sunday so amazing. We couldn’t have done it without you.
